Vista SP1 NTFS File System: "Last Access" attribute not working anymore? Bug?
On my Vista SP1 system, the "Last Access" time stamp attribute does not work at all.Whenever I right click on a file in windows explorer, the "last access" attribute is always exactly the same value than the creation date of the file! This is not the case on a Windows 2003 server system. Whenever I look at the properties of a file the same way, the last access date is changing to the actual date/time as it should, independent of the creation date of the file. - What's going on here? Is this "by design"? - Does the "last access" attribute not work on Windows server 2008 as well? This attribute is important for archiving files. Thank you all in advance for any clarification. regards, Franz

Hi Franz, Id like to inform you that this function is disabled in Windows Vista by default. You can follow the steps below to enable it: 1. Open the Start Menu. 2. Type regedit in Start Search and press Enter. 3. Click on the Continue button in the UAC prompt. 4. In regedit, please locate the following entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem 5. In the right pane, right click on NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate and click on Modify. 6. Type 0 (number zero) and click on OK.
